Ibiza House

Reimagining of a run down out building in the Balearic Islands

An exceptional project in a remote hillside location on the Island of Ibiza, Spain. The client wanted to create an additional dwelling alongside the main house to offer guests independent and accessible accommodation. Tucked away amongst the pine-forested hills of Ibiza, the client wanted a defiantly modernist single-storey dwelling whilst keeping its humble origins as a stone outbuilding and respecting the style of the island’s architecture.

We designed an extension at the back of the outbuilding to accommodate a bedroom and shower room and created a curved wall detail to house the wash basin. The main living space and kitchen are open plan leading onto several external terraces to create shaded areas throughout the long hot summer days. We designed a series of straw and metal awnings along the top of the doorway windows. The entire building is constructed from stone and timber and finished in stucco.
