Cavendish Avenue
Heritage Renovation
The extensive renovation of a Grade ll listed building in St John’s Wood, London and its large garden. The four-storey house on Cavendish Avenue had been adapted and altered many times since it was built in the mid-19th century. The new clients wanted to bring it up to date from the basement to the loft and had started refurbishing (without planning) when we were asked to take over the design and management of the site, but first, we needed to apply for planning permission.
We wanted to restore this majestic building to its former glory. Much of the house had many of its sublime decorative features hidden including parts of the original oak staircase and ceilings. This project became a labour of love for both the client and us.
The transformation included working with artisans, specialist restorers and experts to recreate period pieces like architraves, skirting, windows and the grand staircase; where possible we would match them to the remnants of the original. Our design ensured the much-needed respect this historical building deserved combined with all the innovations and tech required to function in the modern age.
The end result was a pitch-perfect blend of old and new, a seamless transition into the 21st century.
