Conway Road

New Build Design

The development and refurbishment of a single site with two plots within the West Wimbledon Conservation Area. Conway Road is a project consisting of an original 1930’s house (with a 1960’s extension) plus a new build home. Low environmental impact has governed the design of this project from start to finish.

We were commissioned by the client to design and develop this site creating a minimal environmental impact. Our initial designs for the existing house focused on energy efficiency by improving insulation and by using reclaimed brickwork from the 1960s extension to construct efficiently.

The proposal for the new house uses low embodied carbon count materials, which combined with using high-quality naturally insulating materials plus the introduction of modern and efficient systems to heat and power the house will also reduce the carbon footprint during its lifetime occupancy. Reducing concrete and steelwork and with the rest of the house constructed in cross-laminated timber panels minimises the carbon footprint.
